Seller Check™
It’s rare, but a seller could give you false details if they’re not the registered owner (e.g. a stolen vehicle) or if they don't want you to come knocking on their door if there are future problems with the vehicle!
Checking the seller is as important as checking the car!
Worried about asking for these details?
Simply explain to the seller that it is no longer possible to look up the "registered person" without first entering their details. You're just being safe.
If they are unwilling to properly identify themselves then walk away; it's not worth the risk
How does this work?
- Get the seller's driver licence details and consent to check. Make sure you get the licence of the person you are dealing directly with. If you can sight the licence yourself, this is even safer. Do not accept a third party's licence.
- We'll check with the Government to see if this is a valid licence and try to confirm if they are the "registered person" of the vehicle. Sometimes we are unable to confirm ownership e.g. they are a joint owner or they are selling on behalf of another person
- When you meet the seller in person check the photo and details on their licence.
