Buying a Car? What about their fines?

We receive a lot of calls from people who are about to buy a car that are worried about any outstanding fines.   The good news is you don¿t have to worry; liability for fines is remains with the person responsible at the time, not the vehicle.  So, if the seller has incurred parking, speeding or other court fines and they sell their car to you, you will have clear title; the car cannot be repossessed.

Just remember, you still need to check for money owing.  If the seller has outstanding finance the finance company has probably registered a security against the vehicle.  In these cases, the finance company can repossess the car if the seller fails to keep up their repayments.
